The latest statistics released by the Beijing Office of the Italy Foreign Trade Commission show that the amount of clothing imported from Italy has increased continuously in recent years, reaching 290 million US dollars in 2009.

In 2009, Italy's clothing exported directly to China accounted for about 17% of China's imported garment market.

Lai Shiping, chief representative of the Beijing Office of the Italy Foreign Trade Commission and chief coordinator of the China region, said that in 2009, Italy exported about 68% of its exports to China and 32% of its knitted garments.

The larger proportion is woven men's suits, women's outfits and knitted T-shirts and knitted sweaters.

In the field of fabrics, especially in the field of wool fabrics, Italy is China's larger supplier.

According to the data in 2009, China imported wool fabrics from Italy worth about 145 million US dollars, accounting for 33% of China's wool fabric imports.

In the silk field, Italy's exports to China were small, but its growth rate continued to increase. In 2009, China's total imports declined, and imports from Italy also declined, but increased by 27% over 2007.

Lai Shiping said that with China's further opening up to the outside world, Italian company is increasingly aware of the great potential of the Chinese market.

Many companies focus on joint venture production and joint development of market with Chinese companies, so more and more cooperative ventures are coming into being.
