The Canadian government recently announced that new regulations would be introduced to limit the content of 6 kinds of o-phenyl two formates in children's toys and child care products.

According to the new regulation, in all children's toys and child care products, the content of two octyl benzoic acid two octyl ester, dibutyl phthalate and o-benzoic acid two butylbenzyl ester per kilogram of soft vinyl plastics must not exceed 1000 mg.

If the soft vinyl plastic part of the product may be placed in the mouth of children under 4 years of age, then the amount of o-phenyl two formic acid two ISO nonyl ester, o-phenyl two carboxylic acid two isodecyl ester and ortho benzene two acid two octyl ester per kilogram of soft vinyl plastics can be permitted to be no more than 1000 mg.

The new regulations will take effect in June 10, 2011, and producers who violate the regulations may face a fine of 5 million yuan.

The new regulations apply to children's toys and child care products imported to Canada and in Canada.

O-phthalic acid esters are two plasticizers in the processing of plastic products. They are also used as fixing agents and fixative agents for some products.
