The opening ceremony of the eighth Asia Europe summit was held in Brussels on 4 July and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Wen Jiabao said that during the two years since the outbreak of the international financial crisis, although the process of economic recovery is fast and slow, the momentum of recovery is strong and weak.

Has entered a slow recovery track.

At the same time, Wen Jiabao pointed out that "we are also soberly aware that the deep-seated impact of the international financial crisis has not yet been completely eliminated. The unemployment rate in some countries remains high, the economic growth is obviously weak, and the sovereign debt risks of some countries increase, and the prospects for world economic recovery remain uncertain."

Wen Jiabao said that at this critical juncture, the leaders of ASEM member states gathered together to explore a plan to promote the strong and sustainable recovery of the world economy, which is of great significance.

ASEM was established in 1996 as a forum for intergovernmental dialogue between Asia and Europe.

The ASEM summit is the highest level meeting of the ASEM.

This Asia Europe summit will focus on "improving people's Livelihood: enhancing citizens' welfare and dignity", discussing global financial and economic governance, sustainable development, Asian and European social and cultural exchanges, ASEM's future development and international and regional issues. It will also formally accept Russia, Australia and New Zealand as members of ASEM and increase its membership to 48.
