The government has limited the export volume of cotton this year to 5 million 500 thousand bales (170 kg / pack), as natural fiber prices continue to rise.

D K Nair, Secretary General of the India Textile Industry Federation (CITI), said they demanded a tax on cotton exports. The current situation will soon lead to the closure or reduction of production of textile factories.


According to government estimates, cotton production in the next 2010-11 years will likely reach a record of 33 million 500 thousand bags. Domestic demand is about 22 million bales.
