Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts is located on the Haihe River and the mouth of the river. It is located in the center of Tianjin. Its predecessor was Beiyang women's normal school. It was founded in June 1906 by Fu Zengxiang, a famous educationist in modern China. It was one of the earliest public higher institutions in China. In the revolution of 1911 and the "54" movement, a large number of advanced elements such as Deng Yingchao, Guo Longzhen, Liu Qingyang and Xu Guangping emerged. They founded the "awakening society" and led the anti imperialist and anti feudal struggle of Tianjin at the time with Zhou Enlai, Ma Jun and other male school students, and wrote a brilliant page in modern Chinese history.

The school was initially a teacher education school. Around 1926, the Department of fine arts was set up, and three special classrooms including western paintings, Chinese paintings and patterns were set up. In 1929, the Arts Department developed into a picture vice department. The school became one of the most perfect normal universities in China at that time. There were 9 departments of home affairs, Chinese language, English, history, education, music, mathematics, physics and chemistry and biology, 2 pictures and sports, with 350 students in school.

After the founding of new China, after many adjustments and renaming, the college experienced Hebei normal college, Hebei Tianjin normal college, Hebei Art Teachers College, Hebei Academy of Fine Arts, Tianjin Art Institute, and so on. It was named Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in February 1980.

The college covers an area of 94 Mu and the school building area is 87 thousand and 900 square meters. At present, there are five two disciplines, such as fine arts, painting, art design, industrial design, sculpture and so on. It has 17 professional directions: Chinese painting, calligraphy, oil painting, print, sculpture, visual communication design, decorative art design, fashion art design, dyeing and weaving art design, environmental art design, industrial design, digital media art, photography art, comprehensive painting, public art, multimedia design, art history theory and so on. There are more than 3000 students, including postgraduates, undergraduates and international students. The institute takes the undergraduate teaching as the main body, pays attention to the coordination and interaction between teaching and research, and emphasizes the overall construction of the Institute centered on the development of disciplines. The Academy adheres to the teaching tradition of "rigorous scholarship and quality oriented", and sets up the school concept of "thick foundation, wide caliber, and student oriented". In order to build a scientific undergraduate course system, we should deepen the teaching reform and improve the quality of teaching. Students can consolidate the foundation through public courses, professional basic courses, and professional basic courses. By choosing the personalized course group and the whole hospital wide range of optional courses, the elective professional teaching studio can not only learn the knowledge system of this major, but also be able to expand the knowledge plane through elective, continuing, minor or other ways, or continue to pursue advanced studies, acquire higher level knowledge in this major (direction), or minor in the second major (direction) on the basis of this major. And through the tutorial system, we will scientifically guide students to design elective directions suitable for personal growth, change the single training mode to teach students in accordance with their aptitude and pay attention to personality development, so as to achieve the training goal of "high quality artistic talents with high professional literacy, complete knowledge structure and broad professional skills, high cultural literacy and creative potential, and the ability to choose and develop themselves in the future".

In order to strengthen practical teaching and improve teaching methods, colleges and universities have invested tens of millions of yuan in recent years, including the center of sculpture carving art laboratory, the center of art design discipline and the experimental center of modern art college. The Institute has been active in international exchanges, and has established friendly relations with art schools in the United States, France, Germany, Belgium and Korea. We often invite famous professors and experts from abroad to give lectures, lectures or exhibitions. The art history of the Institute has a long history. In 1923, the design department was set up, and the Department of Arts and crafts was set up in 1959. In 1973, he set up industrial modeling, special craft specialty, set up fashion design specialty in 1983, set up environmental art design specialty in 1985, and formed four departments and six professional disciplines development pattern in 90s.
