According to insiders, Chinese merchants have lower product prices and faster sales, thus robbing many businesses of local businesses.

Italy police said in a statement that they had conducted a survey for more than a year, and then searched more than 70 Chinese textile and leather enterprises in Florence, Pisa and Prato.

The police controlled the bank accounts of these enterprises and seized cars and properties.

In a statement, the police said the companies that had been raided earned high profits by hiring unregistered workers and selling counterfeit goods at low prices.

The police accused the companies of reinvesting 238 million euros in cash from Italy to China, which had not been taxed.

On suspicion of illegal pfer of funds and tax evasion, the Italy judge issued a search warrant and a seizure order on the basis of police charges.

The raid was a "big net" by the Italy police.

Over the past 10 years, Chinese immigrants have poured into other towns of Prato and Tuscany, because this is the center of Italy's leather and textile industry. Chinese businessmen sell products that are cheaper than Italy's products and snatch many business from traditional Italy manufacturers.

Prato is now a garment factory run by 3800 Italians, a figure that has been cut by half from 10 years ago.

Richard Marini, the head of a business group in Prato, said that in this area, the amount of textiles exported by Italy enterprises has also fallen by half, while the export volume of Chinese business enterprises has increased significantly.

10 years ago, Prato only had a hundred Chinese people in textile business, and now there are more than 4000.

Many Italian signboards have been replaced by Chinese characters, and a small town in Italy has become a busy Chinese city.

"The Chinese business is doing well, but in this way, the local people in Italy have lost their jobs."

Marini said.

As part of the investigation, Italy police have frozen the operation of 318 Chinese enterprises.

The Chinese Embassy in Italy said in a statement that China respects the actions taken by Italy officials to ensure market order. China also hopes that the legitimate rights of Chinese immigrants can be respected and protected in the operation of the police.
