Adidas Launched High-Performance Environmentally Friendly Running Shoes That Can Be Recycled 100% Times.
Wednesday, the German sporting goods giant Adidas (Adidas) launched a fully recyclable high-performance running shoes, which is one of the latest initiatives of Adidas to reduce plastic waste.
At the launch of Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York, Adidas introduced the running shoes called Futurecraft.Loop: all components are made of 100% reusable thermoplastic polyurethanes, Adidas Speedfactory technology can spin the material into yarn, weaving and molding, so as to clean and melt, and do not use glue.
When Futurecraft.Loop is used, they will be sent back to adidas for disinfection, grinding into pellets, melting again into raw materials, and then used to make a pair of new shoes.
Eric Liedtke, executive director of Adidas, said: "we have been working hard to clean up the plastic waste generated in the production process. This is only the first step.
What should I do when shoes wear out?
Throw it into the landfill and incinerator, and eventually the air will be filled with excess carbon and the ocean will be filled with plastic waste.
So we started thinking about how to end the concept of waste.
Futurecraft.Loop is our first pair of running shoes. It embodies our sense of responsibility for the entire life cycle of the product.
This will prove that we can create a pair of high performance running shoes, and you never have to throw them away. "
Futurecraft.Loop is Adidas and its partners in materials, manufacturing and recycling in Asia, Europe and North America, and has achieved nearly 10 years of research and development.
Tanyaradzwa Sahanga, the adidas technology innovation manager, said: "we are creating a new product that can be grinded back and reapplied to a new adidas product.
We know that this is a long-term vision in terms of technology and consumer behavior.
Sometimes, we seem to be unable to overcome some technical obstacles. Fortunately, we have taken the first step now, and the industry will change. "
The first generation of beta Futurecraft.Loop was launched in April 17th, and 200 opinion leaders are experiencing and testing this new recovery mode, and then providing feedback to Adidas.
The Futurecraft.Loop will start selling to the public in spring 2021, and the retail price has not yet been determined.
But a Adidas spokesman said that the price of this running shoe would be almost the same as that of Adidas's other running shoes.
She said: "we believe that sustainable environmental protection choices must be as accessible as ordinary products, rather than high prices."
Adidas has been concerned about environmental protection and sustainable development for many years.
In 2015, Adidas and Parley for the Oceans jointly launched the first mass production running shoes Adidas Ultraboost Uncaged Uncaged made from Parley Ocean Plastic Adidas material.
The material is recovered from marine plastic waste and illegal deep-sea gill net.
This year, Adidas collects plastic waste from beaches, remote islands and coastal communities, and produces 11 million pairs of sneakers made of Parley Ocean Plastic.
Last August, Adidas announced that it plans to use recycled plastics instead of new plastics by 2024.
