Gap Will Produce Denim With Water Free Technology, And Green Jeans Have Become Popular Gradually.
Gap group, a leading global apparel industry, has announced a revolutionary innovation that will produce denim with water and indigo blue foam dyeing technology. The new denim products will be launched next spring.

The plan will start with the cooperation of Gap group's brand Banana Republic and Spanish cowboy factory Tejidos Royo. The innovative technology, called dry indigo blue, can reduce water consumption by up to 99%, 89% of chemical consumption and 65% of energy consumption. At the same time, it can eliminate water discharge compared with traditional sizing indigo (or piece dyeing) technology.
"This revolutionary new dyeing process directly supports the Gap group's goal of saving 10 billion liters of water by the end of 2020, and the recently announced production of environment-friendly denim by Banana Republic, reducing the impact on water and promoting the sustainability of clean chemistry," said Christophe Roussel, executive vice president of global purchasing, Gap group. "Tejidos Royo is a trustworthy partner and truly pioneer in the field of sustainable innovation. We are very pleased to cooperate with them in this exciting new project. There is no doubt that this will change the future of cowboy manufacturing.

Using the foam dye adhered to the yarn, the modified dry indigo blue technology can produce a pair of denim that is comparable to traditional dyed denim in terms of handle, aesthetics, performance and washability. Banana Republic jeans with dry indigo blue will be launched in the spring and 2020 in the special series of men's and women's wear. The two product lines will include selective procurement and sustainable bagging and decoration, such as the 100% global recovery standard (GRS) certified recycled polyester zipper sticker. The production will be completed in Saitex, which is the most advanced and sustainable factory and can recycle 98% of the water.

At present, dry indigo blue technology is unique to Tejidos Royo, and Banana Republic is one of the first brands to test the technology. Froth dyeing technology is less than 65 feet in space compared with the hundreds of feet commonly needed by traditional dyeing machines, thus significantly reducing energy demand.
The clothing industry is one of the largest and most intensive water consumption industries. In response, Gap group works closely with supply chain partners to implement a number of water-saving initiatives. In 2016, the Gap brand launched Washwell smart - an intelligent cowboy washing scheme, which saved more than 229 million liters of water compared with traditional washing methods. The company recently announced that through joint efforts, water consumption has been up to 5 billion 700 million litres so far.

Gap group has announced that by 2025, 100% of its brands will come from sustainable sources of cotton. Gap group's commitment to sustainability includes the purchase of high quality cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton, that is, organic, recyclable and certified cotton planted in the United States or Australia. In addition, Art Peck, CEO of Gap group recently announced that the group's brand Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic will launch 5% denim of cotton after consumption. Gap and Old Navy will introduce recycled cotton jeans in the winter of 2019, and Banana Republic will be launched in spring 2020.
