The First Chinese Torchbearer Of The Paris Olympic Games Comes From Hengyuanxiang
On May 13, local time in France, the fifth leg of the Paris Olympic torch relay came to Montpellier, the southern French city. Liu Ruiqi, the founder of Hengyuanxiang Group and the chairman of Bulgaria Group, participated in the relay as the No. 52 torch bearer of the day. He also became the first Chinese torch bearer in this Olympic torch relay.
"This year coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. I feel very happy to be a Chinese sports fan to participate in the torch relay in France, which is also a reflection of China France friendship." Liu Ruiqi said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters.
Although not an athlete, Liu Ruiqi has a deep relationship with the Olympic Movement. In terms of Olympic marketing and commercial sponsorship, Liu Ruiqi is a "veteran".
He introduced that the company has sponsored sports events since the 1980s. "In the process of continuous development, we want to go higher and internationalize, and the Olympic movement has a great influence in the world, so we have kept in touch through various ways," said Liu Ruiqi.
In 2001, Beijing was awarded the right to host the 29th Olympic Games. Liu Ruiqi also accelerated the Group's steps in Olympic related sponsorship. Since the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Hengyuanxiang has created dresses for the Chinese delegation for three consecutive Olympic Games, and since then has provided formal clothes and household items for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. Since 2019, Hengyuanxiang has started cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to provide official suits for IOC staff.
"In the future, we will insist on (sponsoring sports), no matter how big or small, we will always maintain a good relationship with the Olympics," Liu Ruiqi said.
The Paris Olympics is not the first time Liu Ruiqi has become an Olympic torch bearer. He took part in the torch relay at the Bund of Shanghai during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. However, acting as a torchbearer in a foreign country, especially in France, is of special significance to Liu Ruiqi.
"I have special feelings for France. On the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, the then French President Chirac granted me the 'Knight's Medal of Literature and Art of the French Republic'. I didn't know much about Montpellier before, but I felt very good after coming. During the delivery today, the French people around me were also very enthusiastic. Maybe they saw that I was the only Chinese face, and they also felt very strange. I will be proud to tell them that I am from China. " Liu Ruiqi said.
