EU Executive Committee: To Define Nanomaterials

Nanometers

The market for nanotechnology in textiles and clothing industries is growing, but surprisingly, there is no widely accepted definition that can be applied to the relevant laws and regulations on the safe use of nanotechnology.

For future European Union Nanometers The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the EU executive committee recommended that the size be the only definition standard, and the particle size would vary from 1nm (nanometer, 1 billion to 1 m) to 100nm.

The joint research center also suggests specific attributes and characteristics (such as caking status, biological persistence, or intentional manufacture) or may be related. In addition, a general definition may be required for specific execution needs.

In a reference report entitled "consideration of the definition of nanomaterials for the purpose of standardization", the joint research center also suggested that the term "particulate nanomaterial, particulate nanomaterials" should be used in the standard text. Nanoparticles have a series of applications in clothing, from anti pollution treatment to the use of silver nanoparticles to reduce the production of bacteria and odors.

But there are still some scientists who are uneasy about embracing nanotechnology. Concerns include whether nanofibers will invade the human body. Cells And nanoparticles in Ready-made clothes Will it fall off during use or during washing?

In addition, it is also concerned that the nanoparticles washed away during washing will affect the sewage treatment plants.
